The shop is back!

I've had a busy couple of months - getting engaged (more on that at a later date), buying a house, moving into said house. We've still got a lot of work to get done on the house, but I'm feeling settled enough to flip the switch back on the Wholehearted Vintage Etsy Shop.

I'll continue to add listings over the next couple of days. Then I get the joy of unpacking all of the new pieces I bought before the move. I'm sure there's a bunch in there I've forgotten about - rediscovering them will be like Christmas!

Don't forget - vintage jewelry makes a great Christmas gift - it's beautiful and eco-friendly!

Stunning antique jewelry

They sure don't make jewelry like they used to. Here are three beautiful antique pieces I found online that I could never afford, but love to look at!

Edwardian Style Platinum Diamond & Sapphire Calibre Pendant at Lang Antique & Estate Jewelry

14k Diamond & Pearl bangle at Maurice Ltd.

Vintage Filigree Diamond Necklace Pearls Platinum at Fay Cullen

Decorating

Posts this month may be a bit more scarce as Ryan and I prepare to leave our cozy condo and move into our new house. I can't wait to post more jewelry (I'm sitting on a mountain of wonderful vintage earrings), but unfortunately I've got lots of time consuming planning to finish up before getting back in the swing of things.

Pinterest has become my haven for decorating ideas. Our new living room has wood paneling on the bottom half of the walls and is in desperate need of an update. I found this image through Pinterest and it will be the basis of our living room colour palette. We'll paint the wood paneling white and the walls above a light greyish-blue.

Paper + Typography

I came across these beautiful paper letters on Pinterest. The set is called paper + typography by Sabina Karnik whose paper art portfolio can be seen on Behance.net. She has a bunch of wonderful paper art worth checking out!

Loving Elly MacKay

I came across Elly MacKay's work on Etsy and was instantly in love. They have such a whimsical depth that Elly achieves using this layered theatre process. Elly blogs at http://ellymackay.wordpress.com and has prints for sale on Etsy.

Vintage Catnip

As an artist I'm always on the lookout for royalty-free images to use creatively. One website that I love is Vintage Catnip. There are so many wonderful vintage postcard and advertising images to choose from. Here are a couple of my favourites:

"Clip art images are free for decorating personal blogs, and for incorporating into 3D and digital arts and crafts for handmade sales or personal use, unless posted otherwise. Credit for the image and a link back are much appreciated. "

New home!

We are Home Illustration Print by virginiakraljevic on Etsy

The shop has been a bit quieter this week because after two years of looking, my boyfriend and I have bought a house just outside of downtown Toronto! We're very excited and now have to get our condo on the market and start a plan of attack for the new house. More space will equal more creativity! I can't wait!

Prized Kittie

Spotted at the Stratford Antique Warehouse - I wish my cat would win this many medals. He certainly deserves them!

The ones that got away

I had a great time antiquing in Stratford. I came back with lots of jewelry for the shop. I especially found an abundance of vintage earrings - I'll be adding them to the shop soon. There are always a few awesome items that I just can't justify buying. Here are a few from this weekend:

This Spartan Sled Table Radio is exquisite!

Loved this art deco print sooo much! Just couldn't justify buying it after all of the buying I had been doing. One day this will be mine!

I've never seen a vanity dresser like this. You could have your mini-dresser on top of your real dresser!

Stratford

I'm headed off to Stratford, Ontario tomorrow for a long weekend. I'll be taking in some antiquing, some Jesus Christ Superstar and hopefully some great food! To get in the Shakespearian mood here are my top Shakespeare picks on Etsy:

Toms

My brother and his girlfriend bought me a couple of pairs of Toms shoes for my birthday. I was familiar with their movement - giving a pair of shoes to someone in need for every pair bought. It's a great one-to-one system. They are extremely comfortable shoes to wear - I'm completely sold! I know I'll end up buying more pairs in the future. The plain canvas shoes are great to decorate and I think some would look wonderful with vintage rhinestone shoe clips.

Here are two of my favourite designs from their site - they keep with the Toms style, but with some added vintage flair.

Going, going gone!

These beauties just sold in the shop! I'm sure they're off to great homes.

My own tintype

I love collecting old photographs. Having one made of you is even cooler! I took a course in university on experimental photography procedures where I made copper etchings. I always wanted to make a tintype, but the supplies and chemicals needed made it seem unattainable.

While wandering the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition last weekend we came across the Tintype Studio booth. I couldn't resist jumping at the chance to have my own tintype portrait taken. When else would we have the chance?

They use modern strobes so there is no waiting for long exposures. You get the same results without the waiting!

And here it is - our piece of history!

One of my favourite antique shops in Toronto is Toronto Antiques on King. Cynthia Findlay always has cases and cases full of the most beautiful antique jewelry. This sapphire bracelet really caught my eye!

Openwork Hinged Victorian Bangle from Cynthia Findlay Antiques

From her site, "One lady’s 14 karat white and yellow openwork hinged Victorian bangle. One sapphire (0.13 carats). Two old European cut diamonds (0.12 carats: SI2-I1 clarity: H-I colour)".

Shadows That Stir by Cayetano Valenzuela

I've been in love with this print by Cayetano Valenzuela on Society6 for so long. I keep it bookmarked so that when I move (and actually have wall space for it) it will be one of my first purchases.

The 4th of July

The best part of having a birthday on the 4th of July as a non-American was the amount of parades and fireworks I could watch as a kid on my birthday. It really did make it seem like more special of a day!

We just enjoyed this delicious Baileys Cheesecake at work for my birthday. It was delicious! Let the great food continue with a wonderful dinner. Thanks to all friends and family for birthday wishes!

Happy Canada Day!

I've seen lots of red and white Canada Day posts in the past week and I decided to do something a little different. Here are my favourite Canadiana items on Etsy.

Swooning over Erie Basin

I'm glued to every update on Erie Basin. He has such an eye for exquisitely designed jewelry and antiques. This ring is by far my favourite that he's ever posted. I've never seen anything quite like it. It's such a unique design and would make a wonderful engagement ring. Sadly for me it sold quite quickly, but I'm sure that someone out there is lovingly wearing it.

Pinterest

It seemed like everyone was raving about Pinterest a few weeks ago. I made an account, but never bothered to log on until today. Boy do I regret waiting! Having a visual bookmarking system is so handy! This will replace my bookmarking into folders and emailing myself links all of the time to stockpile inspiration. There's nothing worse than searching through your email going through links that you haven't described well enough.

If you're on Pinterest follow me at http://pinterest.com/wholeheartedvtg and I will return the favour!

Sugar Beach

This weekend we decided to explore Sugar Beach - a new beach that opened last summer on Toronto's waterfront. The beach is beside the Redpath Sugar factory (hence the name) and wound up to be a nice pit-stop along the waterfront.

Ryan looking out onto Lake Ontario

We also had a wonderful dinner at Against the Grain - my new favourite patio downtown. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed the meal. There aren't many restaurants directly on the water, let alone ones with delicious food! A definite recommend for any Torontonians.

What better to top off a great meal than some awesome golf themed cupcakes! Thanks to Ryan for bringing them home.

Scenes from the Christie Antique Show

This bear was definitely a highlight. While not a real bear, it was about seven feet tall and constantly had people crowding around.

The Christie Lake Conservation Area is such an awesome venue. The day started out super foggy, but cleared up mid-day. Makes the crowds more manageable!

I loved the colour of this painting of Maligne Lake in Jasper. Such great memories of time out there made it tempting to want to buy this!

This table was a great idea for anyone who collects printing blocks like myself.

And the one that got away... I fell in love with this circa 1890s hand-cut wood cutout of the Lord's Prayer, but had to walk away. It was huge and weighed a ton.

I walked away with some great jewelry for the shop. I also grabbed an etched copper plate & beaded clutch for myself.

Onto the next show...
